- Corvette ZR1 hits 60 mph in just 2.2 seconds during recent performance testing.
- It delivers 1,064 hp exclusively to the rear wheels yet maintains impressive traction.
- Massive Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires help it grip hard under full throttle launches.
We all knew the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 was going to be quick. After all, with 1,064 hp on tap from its 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8, how can it not be quick? Not only can it hit 233 mph, but Car and Driver has revealed it is the quickest rear-wheel-drive car it has ever tested.

Given that all of the ZR1’s power is sent through the rear wheels, you may expect it to spin up its tires the very moment a driver even looks at the throttle. However, the new flagship Corvette recorded a 0-60 mph (96 km/h) time of just 2.2 seconds during Car & Driver’s test.

Importantly, C&D uses a one-foot rollout for all of its 0-60 mph tests, so in reality, the Corvette ZR1 didn’t actually launch from a standstill to 60 mph in 2.2 seconds. A one-foot rollout typically reduces a car’s 0-60 mph time by about 0.2 or 0.3 seconds. Nevertheless, it’s an impressive feat. While testing the Lamborghini Revuelto, complete with all-wheel-drive and 1,001 hp, C&D also needed 2.2 seconds to hit 60 mph.
A big part of what helps the ZR1 hook up so well is its layout. With the engine sitting over the rear axle, traction gets a boost where it matters most. Add in a set of ultra-sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires at 275 mm wide up front and 345 mm out back, and you’ve got a setup that means business, even without fancy front-drive assistance.
The Quarter-Mile Numbers Back It Up
It’s not just the 0-60 sprint that is impressive. The Corvette ZR1 hits 100 mph (161 km/h) in 4.5 seconds and 130 mph (209 km/h) in just 7.1. The quarter mile? That’s over in 9.5 seconds at 149 mph (240 km/h). And just to make that even more impressive, all of this was achieved on an unprepped surface, not a drag strip with sticky compound or VHT. Expect to see quicker times once owners start putting these cars through their paces at proper tracks.
