Military vehicles are known for their sheer durability, designed to survive the harshest conditions of a battlefield. In a recent incident in Seattle, that ruggedness may have helped soldiers avoid more serious injury during a dramatic crash. The event unfolded on Saturday, leaving the vehicle and its trailer reduced to little more than a mangled heap of metal.

Local police reported the military truck was traveling eastbound on Interstate 90 when it drifted right. It is believed to have smashed through a fence, crossed a small road, and crashed over a wall onto 38th Street, just in front of the exit of a tunnel.

The tan-colored behemoth was severely damaged in the crash. Pictures shared online of the aftermath show the passenger-side front wheel and suspension parts have been destroyed. Parts of the vehicle’s roof have also been crushed as the trailer flipped and landed on top of it.
One particularly telling photo shows the damage to the pavement, where a chunk of the road was torn out by the steel frame. That’s likely going to require some road repairs, though it’s hardly the most pressing concern.

Local Trooper Rick Johnson says that two people sustained minor injuries. Local army members quickly arrived at the scene to recover some of the most valuable equipment from the vehicle. The Washington State Patrol is thought to be overseeing an investigation into the crash.
For as bad as the wreck is, things could have been even worse. According to a Redditor who witnessed the crash, they had just exited the tunnel when the vehicle came crashing down. Had it crashed just a couple of seconds later, their car could have been destroyed. It’s also fortunate that no other vehicles travelling on I-90 were hit.

This literally happened right behind me. It fell from the road above just immediately after i emerged from the tunnell. If I were 2 seconds later it would have landed on top of me
