However, Ericksen said they wouldn\u2019t want the car to go on a hiatus as that would be \u201csub-optimum.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"taboola-mid-article\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"taboola-mid-article-thumbnails-organic\"><\/div>\n<p>Despite freely talking about the possibility of a third-generation GR86, Toyota officials clamed up when asked about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carscoops.com\/2025\/01\/toyota-hints-at-mr-something-with-2-0-liter-turbo-and-awd\/\">rumored MR-2 revival<\/a>. However, Toyota\u2019s David Christ said he\u2019d love to have more GR models. As he explained, \u201cWith the GR brand we have proven that we can build and sell fun-to-drive, affordable exciting product and don\u2019t have to go into the stratosphere on pricing to develop a fun car.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>        <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carscoops.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Toyota-GR86-602-1.jpg\" data-type=\"inarticle-image-block\"> <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\">\n<p>                    <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"lazy \" src=\"\" alt=\" Supra\u2019s Out But This GR Might Be Getting A New Generation\" width=\"2500\" height=\"1667\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.carscoops.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Toyota-GR86-602-1-1024x683.jpg\" data-type=\"inarticle-image\" \/><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>        <\/a>  <\/p>\n<p>With all that being said, sporty models don\u2019t generate a lot of sales. Last year, Toyota sold 11,426 GR86s in the United States, which was a slight increase over the 11,078 sold in 2023. If that happens, Toyota might develop and produce the model by themselves. Whether that leads to a radically different GR86 or simply a more Toyota-centric one remains to be seen. But for now, fans of the lightweight rear-wheel-drive coupe can breathe easy.
